Beta level
Beta level is the odds a researcher is willing to take to commit a Type II error
The beta level is used to denote the chances that a researcher is willing to take to commit a Type II error. Unlike with the Type I error, there is no method to calculate the probability of a Type II error. Type II errors occur based on a plethora of different factors.
Most times, researchers tend to choose an arbitrary beta level of .20. The formula for statistical power is (1-beta). So, 1-.20 = .80, or 80% power. Most published studies are powered at an 80% level to detect significant effects, should they actually exist in the population.
